Research Interests

Trials/Studies in various stages of development for which I am also the Principal Investigator:
The EPSRC Brain Tumour Study:

This is a study utilising state of the art MRI scan technology at CUBRIC (Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre) to characterise the blood flow characteristics surrounding brain tumours. Recruitment is likely to commence in early 2022.

The EPSRC Brain Tumour Study:
Trials currently in progress:

At the University Hospital of Wales, I am the Principal Investigator for the FUTURE-GB Trial – a multicentre UK based surgical trial that assesses the use of very advanced neuronavigation and brain mapping technology in the surgery of intrinsic brain cancer (glioblastoma). Recruitment to this trial is ongoing. If you do have the condition (and live in South Wales), you will more than likely have already been considered for this trial if you . Facial Pain & Trigeminal Neuralgia
Studies already in progress:

I am currently studying the efficacy of botulinum toxin injected subcutaneously (just under the skin, and not into muscle as they do for cosmetic and other purposes) in the management of trigeminal neuropathic pain – a terrible condition that is extremely difficult to manage. If you belong to the unfortunate few who have this condition, I do empathise deeply but also encourage you to get in touch (contact form) to see if I could help

Facial Pain & Trigeminal Neuralgia
Studies in development:

Along with CUBRIC I am currently designing a study utilising advanced MRI techniques to predict how useful MVD Surgery for Trigeminal Neuralgia could be depending on the relationships between the trigeminal nerve and certain blood vessels around it.

In collaboration with Cardiff University’s BioEngineering Department I am also in the early stages of developing a method of recording trigeminal nerve impulses (the small amounts of electrical currents that travel through the nerve) in an attempt to research its utility in MVD Surgery.
